In his early years, Mark Dunnington studied the piano with Alexander Kelly at the Royal Academy of Music and with Paul Berkowitz at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama from where he graduated in 1983. Following this, he qualified as a secondary school music teacher and continued postgraduate study with David Smith at the Royal Northern College of Music. In 1993 he became a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music in piano performance.
His school teaching career spanned nearly 20 years. During this time he held the posts of Head of Music in both state and private schools including St David's College Llandudno and Eirias High School Colwyn Bay. In 2004 he left full time school teaching to focus on private instrumental tuition, performing and composing.
He has worked regularly as a solo and ensemble jazz pianist and has given a number of classical recitals in North Wales and Chester. He has also worked as a church organist,choirmaster and exam accompanist.
