Mark Dunnington Music  is based in Rhos on Sea, Conwy, North Wales and offers lessons in piano (classical and jazz), digital keyboard, violin,viola, music theory (including fast track grade 5), harmony (classical and jazz) and Music GCSE / A level (local school support). 

With over 25 years teaching experience, we have an excellent track record of pupil success due to innovative and flexible teaching programmes designed around each student, whether they are studying for exams or learning purely for leisure.

We teach pupils of all ages and abilities including: young and adult beginners, adult refreshers (those who have come back to playing after a considerable break),senior citizens, aspiring professionals school pupils and teachers wishing to gain higher qualifications.

  Fun, focussed and flexible

Lessons are conducted on a one- to- one basis in spacious, comfortable and well equipped accommodation which contains a grand piano, digital keyboard and computer based recording equipment.

For younger beginners the emphasis is on having fun and being imaginative whilst building solid technical foundations and an understanding of basic music concepts. Pupils study short, carefully graded but imaginative pieces often played as duets with the teacher. We make creative use of digital keyboard and computer technology to enhance the learning process and pupils have the opportunity to record their pieces onto computer and make a CD which they can show to family and friends. They even get to design their own CD cover!

For older children the course is carefully structured to ensure solid technical and musical foundations and paced according to aptitude and ability. Pieces are carefully chosen to reflect a balance between traditional classical music and the pupils own musical tastes such as pop, jazz or film music. Again, we use computer technology to arrange and record selected pieces and burn them onto CD. Over time these build into an excellent record of achievement.

For adult pupils, the course is very flexible, built around the pupils' own aspirations and tastes in music whilst still being technically rigorous. Playing an instrument is an absorbing and satisfying skill to acquire and we concentrate on enjoying the journey!

Pupils have the opportunity to work for ABRSM grades  but it is recognised that this will not be the chosen path for all students. Again, we use computer technology to arrange and record selected pieces and  burn them onto CD. Over time these build into an excellent record of achievement.

For adult pupils, the course is very flexible, built around the pupils' own aspirations and tastes in music whilst still being technically rigorous. We have many years experience in teaching older beginners and have an extensive library of our own 'in - house' arrangements of famous classical, popular and showsongs chosen by our pupils. Created using computer software, they can quickly be adapted to suit the skill level of the pupil and in many cases include backing and demo tracks to play along with.

We ensure pupils are thoroughly prepared for:
  • Piano, keyboard, violin and viola exams (including jazz piano)
  • Music Theory exams (including fast track course to Grade 5)
  • Post grade 8 diplomas 
  • University Entrance auditions 
  • Auditions for specialist music schools
  • GCSE and A level Music (local school support)
Pupils studying for instrumental and theory exams sit those administered by the Associated Board for the Royal Schools of Music. We have an excellent record of exam successes with the majority of pupils passing with Distinction and Merit. A number of our pupils have progressed to become professional musicians and teachers.
